On a Whim Trip

Cameron woke up Saturday morning and announced to all the sleepy heads to get out of bed and pack an overnight bag.  We were off to visit Makayla at Southern Utah University.  When we dropped her off in August, we promised that we would come and visit her.  Well, she is coming home on Wednesday for the summer so it was now or never.  We went now.  We took her to lunch to Cafe Rio and visited our old stomping grounds of SUU until it was time for her to go to work.  The rest of us went to St. George for the night to visit the sites.

This historic building is where Cameron and I took all our education courses.  It now houses offices instead of classrooms.

Why it's okay to flex your glutes for the camera is beyond me.  

Airing Out the Dirty Laundry

When you don't fold your laundry in our home, it gets aired outside.  The underwear on the door handle is our latest decor. We hide nothing from the neighbors.

Lagoon

Today we spent our last day of Spring Break at Lagoon.  This adventure surprised me as well as the kids since I swore off ever going to Lagoon 5 years ago.  It's a crowd issue, standing in line issue, and    getting out of the house issue.  I got over it.  

The day was pleasant, the lines were fine, and everyone had a great time.  We invited Brendan Bennett (Makayla's best friend) to come with us.  He just got home off his mission 3 days ago from Birmingham,  England speaking Mandarin Chinese.  It was awesome to listen to his missionary stories on the trip to Lagoon.

The Double Scoop Story

Dad bought not only single scoop ice-cream cups, but double scoop ice-cream cups!  He was patted on the back, thanked a million times, and praised as the best dad ever.  Ten minutes later, belly aches began to happen after the first scoop was devoured and suggestions of  how one scoop probably would have been better than two scoops started coming our way.  Since we are known as the parents that will only buy the smallest servings when going out for treats, this was great news to us.  Now we can use Lagoon's ice-cream story to back up our, "Kids - we are only going to buy the small size!"

Scripture Family Time

We have always tired tried to have family scripture study through the years - 18 years!  Some months/years have been consistent and other months/years have been sparse.  This year we decided to listen to the General Conference messages again using the Ensign, iPhones, and a wireless speaker.  The discovery of QR codes at the end of the messages got us excited.  We excite easily here.  After listening to the message, we hold hands around the table and sing Kumbaya!  Just kidding!  But, seriously, I have threatened the kids that we would do just that if they didn't stop arguing or stop doing whatever it was that was causing me grief.  Afterwards, we go around the table and share one thing that stood out to us in the message. I provide highlighters to make this an easy task for the kids.  Highlight what you like and then share. Easy peasy.  Coloring people's hair and drawing mustaches on their faces in the photos is not an option but happens regularly.  Those too, are shared around the table.  I have some pretty artistic kids! 

This is a snippet of our evening tonight.  Jarin and his 'blankee' - a white towel.  He always has a white towel over his head - he's a silly fellow (a story for another day).

Disclaimer to our happy family scripture study:  battles do ensue, names are called (sibling to sibling - not parents), threats and bribes happen (parents to child), however, we are much happier afterwards 95% of the time.  I'd say that is good.

Rock Climbing

We decided to try something totally new for a Spring Break activity.  Rock climbing at the Momentum Indoor Climbing center.  We each tried on four different pairs of shoes to get the right fit cause there ain't nobody that likes squished toes.  Then we stood around for two whole minutes trying to figure out what to do because it was a little scary.  We climbed and climbed and climbed some more.  We had tears and blood, but in the end everyone was happy and exhausted!  Two thumbs up!
